There aren't too many references to Diablo 3 in Diablo 4, and some players were left wondering what happened to Tyrael and the Nephalem in the decades since. But the game isn't completely devoid of connection to previous games in the Diablo series – Duriel and Andariel return as bosses from Diablo 2, for example, and Lorath talks about Deckard every so often.

Some of the series' most iconic locations return in Diablo 4 as well, like Tristram, and the Hidden Camp of Diablo 3. It's been decades since the events of D3, and even though the Hidden Camp wasn't meant to remain there for long, much of it remains intact and will be instantly recognizable to longtime fans.

What Is the Hidden Camp?

In the predecessors to Diablo 4, Acts were quite literally separated by location - there was very little, if any, backtracking between major zones. There were different hubs for each Act, much like how there is a major city with all crafters/vendors in each area of D4, and the Hidden Camp was the Hub "city" for Act II.

After learning who the mysterious stranger who fell from the sky is, and after the sudden (and controversial) death of Deckard Cain, the Nephalem of D3 heads to the Hidden Camp. It was set up in secret above Caldeum by Tyrael and Deckard's foster daughter Leah – they didn't know it at the time, but they were right above a city ruled by a lesser evil in disguise: Belial, the Lord of Lies.

One of the most iconic parts of this Act II hub area was the overlook in the northwestern side. Peer over the ledge on the west side of town to see Caldeum in all its glory from up on high, just don't let the wasps and insects in the area distract you from the view.

Before considering how to get to the Hidden Camp from Diablo 3 in Diablo 4, players should make sure they're prepared. It's a good idea to at least complete up to Act III of the main story on at least one character as the opening to Act IV gives access to the Mount system across all characters. This way, unless you get knocked off or hit a barrier, getting to the Hidden Camp is a much faster affair.

It's advisable to get up to at least Level 30 as the Kehjistan region – and Hawezar – doesn't scale to players' level like Fractured Peaks, Scosglen, and the Dry Steppes do. Kehjistan is relatively easy to survive from at least Level 30 onward.

New characters should automatically have the waypoint for Gea Kul unlocked, a settlement deep in the southwest of Diablo 4's map of Sanctuary in the Kehjistan region. Teleport here, then leave through the north gate and immediately start heading east in as straight a line as possible. Look for a road that leads northeast around a large empty space, and follow it until it sharply turns northwest then southeast. If you hit Omath's Redoubt, a Stronghold, you've gone too far south.

Continue along this eastward road as it turns southeast into a Fields of Hatred zone. Don't mark yourself for PvP, just wander into the town of Denshar and pick up the Waypoint here for convenience's sake. Then, from the waypoint, turn back and head northwest on the road until you see a place to climb up. Hop off the mount, climb up, and wander a short distance eastward to reach the Hidden Camp.

Now titled the Forgotten Overlook, there's not much here except insect enemies, environmental callbacks, and a cellar – but that view of the ruins of Caldeum makes it all worth it.
