Quick Links
Diablo 4 has a large map that is split into five main areas. These locations are the Fractured Peaks, Scosglen, the Dry Steppes, Kehjistan, and Hawezar. The third location players will come across is where most of Act 3 happens; this desert location is called the Dry Steppes.
While players are completing all the Diablo 4 main story campaign quests in the area, they can also pick up side quests to get more rewards, gold, renown, and XP. There are 38 or 39 total side quests in the area, and if players are looking to 100% the area, they will want to pick every one of these up.
Chambatar Ridge Side Quests
Chambatar Ridge is the easternmost part of the Dry Steppes; it encompasses the area just south of the Westering Lowlands in Scosglen. There are five side quests in this area.
Weight of Sin
- Quest Pick Up Location: The Boiling Plains
- Quest NPC: Nekhii or Neckii
- Prerequisites: None
- Reward: None
Pick up Dawa's Bracelet in the Charred Remains north of the Forsaken Ascent. Naraa's Bracelet is on the Charred Remains in the Spine of Civo. Return to where Nekhii was; there will be a letter there now. Drop both bracelets into the sulfur pool that Nekhii drowned herself in to complete the quest.
Treasure or Trash

- Prerequisites: More than Meets the Eye Side Quest
- Reward: Herb Cache, Ring
After chatting with Rakhaan, he will offer a Deactivated Ring from his strong box. Kill marked enemies in Chambatar Ridge to collect Demon Essences. Once the Ring has been activated, return it to Rakhaan.
In the Name of Love
- Quest Pick Up Location: Fate's Retreat
- Quest NPC: Rakhaan
- Prerequisites: Complete the entire main story campaign of Diablo 4
- Reward: Herb Cache
Rakhaan will ask players to get the Cleaver from Whispering Vault Dungeon in the Dry Steppes.
Curious Curios
- Quest Pick Up Location: The Boiling Plains
- Quest NPC: Sameera
- Prerequisites: None
- Reward: Gem Cache
Sameera will ask for the Malevolent Relic; look in pots around the Searing Pools for it. Then, interact with it to perform the gesture spell. Bring the relic to Rakhaan in Fate's Retreat. This will complete the quest; chat with him again to start the next quest in the chain: Hunting the Relic Hunter.
Hunting the Relic Hunter

Abaan, the Relic Hunter, has gone missing; head to the spot highlighted on the map to find them. Abaan will trigger a fight; kill all the skeletons that spawn. After the battle is over, inspect the Mysterious Pot and then perform the gesture spell on the Malevolent Relic. Bring it back to Rakhaan, then speak to him again to start the next quest: More.Than Meets the Eye
The Accursed Wastes and the Qara Yisu Side Quests
The cursed location of Qara Yisu is the main location in this section of the Dry Steppe's map. The town and the land surrounding it are all cursed, and players will find only three side quests here.
More Than Meets the Eye
- Quest Pick Up Location: The Accursed Wastes
- Quest NPC: Rakhaan
- Prerequisites: Hunting the Relic Hunter Side Quest
- Reward: Rare Focus
After Hunting the Relic Hunter, Rahkaan will be found at the Foothills of Saraan. Players will have to follow him inside to a cave, and inside it will be a light beam puzzle. Players need to move each of the light beams around to make a star shape, the kill all the demons that spawn. Have a chat with Rakhaan, who has a little suprise for players before activating the light puzzle and opening the chamber. Defeat Kafan before chatting with Rakhaan again to end the quest.
Phases of the Moon
- Quest Pick Up Location: Qara Yisu

- Prerequisites: Complete Ruins of Qara-Yisu Stronghold
- Reward: Gem Cache
Talk to Arban in the Ruins of Qara-Yisu; ask him "Is there a problem?" Collect 25 Khazra Bones from Moonclan Marauder in the Barren Steps, hen return to Arban for a reward.
Blood and Sweat
- Quest Pick Up Location: Qara Yisu
- Quest Starting Item: Bloodstained letter
- Prerequisites: Complete Ruins of Qara-Yisu Stronghold
- Reward: Salvage Cache
After completing this Stronghold in the Dry Steppes, a Bloodstained letter will appear on the ground close to the Stronghold's waypoint. Look for a Disturbed Stone in the highlighted area to find a doll. Bring the Doll to Tuya in Alzuuda. This quest has been bugged for some players; if players interact with the letter and the quest does not start, there is no known fix for this bug currently.
Jakha Basin Side Quests
Jakha Basin connects the Accursed Wastes to the Khargai Crags. This area is pretty small, and it only contains two side quests for players to collect.
Sentimental Value
- Quest Pick Up Location: Hidden Overlook in Jakha Basin
- Quest NPC: Ulagan
- Prerequisites: None
- Reward: Cache
Speak with Ulagan in the Hidden Overlook, then head to Desolation’s Reach and speak with Ulagan again. Search the area around Ulagan for his uncle’s heirloom ring; it won't be found, so talk with Ulagan. Next, players will need to kill Orsolya and take the ring. When players interact with Ulagan, he will not recognize the ring. Bring it to Rakhaan in Fate's Retreat instead.
What Remains

- Quest NPC: Bayarma
- Prerequisites: None
- Reward: Cache
Ask Bayarma in Hidden Overlook "Are you all right?" Bayarma will give players Erdene’s Remains, asking them to deliver it to Erdene’s father, Yeshi in Farobru. Then take the remains and bury them in the Arid Heartland in some loose dirt. A Hungry Bloodhawk will spawn; kill it. Return to Yeshi to let him know that the job is done.
Side Quests in Khargai Crags
The Khargai Crags are the areas surrounding the Onyx Watchtower Stronghold to the south. Players can find only two side quests in this massive area.
Sealed Oxen Tribe Cache

- Prerequisites: None
- Reward: Unsealed Oxen Tribe Cache
In the Khargai Crags, kill vile shamans until a Sealed Oxen Tribe Cache drops. It is a random drop, so it may take some time for one to show up. Defeat vile enemies denoted by red dots in the highlighted area of the map. They will drop Demon Fury, filling up the bar to unseal the Cache. Open this Cache from the inventory.
Scorched Debts
- Quest Pick Up Location: Bastard's Pass
- Quest Starting Item: Scorched Debt Ledger
- Prerequisites: None
- Reward: Murmuring Cache filled with Murmuring Obols
There is an abandoned camp in the Bastard's Pass that has a Scorched Debt Ledger. Take it to Lakren's Overlook to the highlighted section of the map. There, players will find Andreea. Ask why the ledger has her name in it, and she will attack. Kill her and her entire crew, then go to Ked Bardu. Look for the innkeeper Urgem, then chat with him about the ledger.
He will send players a little further south to a person named Svea. Svea will then tell players to talk to Setsgi, a healer who lives a little north of the waypoint in this area. Setsgi will then send players to the Crown of Fiends kind of near the Onyx Watchtower waypoint to look for Lyruk. Once players find Lyruk, he will ask them to burn the ledger at the campfire then join him for a ritual. Once Lyruk starts the ritual, it will summon a demon called Orrostus the Debt Collector, an Elite. Killing it will end this quest.
The Onyx Watchtower's Side Quests
This Stronghold has two more side quests to find. Players will have to finish the Stronghold before getting them.
A Pound of Flesh
- Quest Pick Up Location: The Onyx Watchtower
- Quest NPC: Nizaar
- Prerequisites: Complete the Onyx Watchtower Stronghold
- Reward: Key
Ask Nizaar, the person in the hanging cage, "Are you alright?" They will mention the Ragged Encampment; kill all the bandits there to get the gibbet key. Return to Nizaar, releasing them from the gibblet. They will fall to the ground. Ask them, "How does freedom feel?" Give them a healing potion when asked. Head a little to the south with Nizaar in tow, and pick a weapon from the sword rack.
Nizaar will then lead players to the east a little, into Borza’s Hideout. Follow the map of cave to the end; Nizaar will betray the player to Borza. Kill Nizaar, Borza, and the rest of the gang. This will reward players with some XP, gold, and renown.
Kith and Kin
- Quest Pick Up Location: The Onyx Watchtower
- Quest NPC: Chabi
- Prerequisites: Complete the Onyx Watchtower Stronghold
- Reward: Cache
Chabi at the Onyx Watchtower is mourning the loss of family. Players will need to collect Personal Effects from the people who died there. Kill skeleton undead enemies until 15 have been collected, then return them to Chabi.
Tusmaa Rift Side Quests
Tusmaa Rift is to the north of the Onyx Watchtower's location, and it contains three different side quests for Diablo 4 players to find.
Reject the Mother
- Quest Pick Up Location: Tusmaa Rift
- Quest Starting Item: Torn Note
- Prerequisites: None
- Reward: Heretic's Cache
On the ground of the Abahru Canyon of Tusmaa Rift, players can find a Torn Note. Read it to start the quest. This will highlight a secret shrine on the map. Head to this shrine, which is right outside the Dark Ravine Dungeon. There, players will find a summoning circle. Use the No emote on the emote wheel, and the Heretic's Cache will show up.
No Deed Unpunished
- Quest Pick Up Location: Tusmaa Rift
- Quest Starting Item: Cultist Missive
- Prerequisites: None
- Reward: Cache
There is a note on the ground at this location, the Cultist Missive. Head to the highlighted areas and look for corpses of Cult Recruiters. After that, look for survivors in the highlighted area. Let the survivors out of their cages, and they will attack. Kill them to end the quest.
Strange Ore Sample

- Reward: Cache
Interact with ore veins in this area until one drops a Strange Ore Sample. Go to Ked Bardu, and look for Gerti. Give them the Strange Ore Sample.
Kotama Grasslands Side Quests
Kotama Grasslands is a northern location in the Dry Steppes. It contains the city of Ked Bardu. This important section of the Dry Steppes' map, and it has six side quests in it, and most of these are in the city itself.
Hunger for a New Life
- Quest Pick Up Location: Northern Kotama Grasslands
- Quest NPC: Zolaya
- Prerequisites: None
- Reward: Cache
Zolaya will give players an empty tea infuser and send them to their hideout. Players need to enter Zolaya’s Hideout, fill the infuser with herbs from the Crate of Medicinal Herbs to the north of the entrance, then give it back to Zolaya.
Corroding Mettle
- Quest Pick Up Location: Ked Bardu
- Quest NPC: Siban
- Prerequisites: None
- Reward: Ore Cache
Say, "You seem troubled," the Siban; he will ask players to look for Ordun and Khada in Jirandai. Go through that waypoint and look for Ordun south of the waypoint under the shops. Head to the highlighted area where Khada's caravan will be in the Untamed Scarps. Khada's corpse will be found right in front of the Cannibals' Hold. Return to Ordun.
Malign Devotion
- Quest Pick Up Location: Ked Bardu
- Quest NPC: Husun
- Prerequisites: None
- Reward: Cache
Hunsun will tell players to head to Alzuuda; find the mason Lakren there. Lakren will tell players to help them find the Lost Monument. Head into the crypt below the monument, and Lakren will betray the player. Kill Lakren, and he will summon a Snowy Vile Overseer; kill it, then inspect the Gospel of the Mother to finish the quest.
Thieves Famine
- Quest Pick Up Location: Ked Bardu
- Quest NPC: Gelek
- Prerequisites: None
- Reward: Cache
Ask the NPC Gelek if something is wrong, and he will answer that bandits keep stealing supplies. Head to the highlighted area in Kotama Grasslands, and kill marauders. They will drop stolen supplies. Collect 20 of these; bring them back to Gelek.
Crucible of Worth
- Quest Pick Up Location: Ked Bardu
- Quest NPC: Gerti
- Prerequisites: None
- Reward: Rare Weapon
Ask Gerti "Is something wrong?" Go to the highlighted area along the coast; the axe will be found on along the coast on an elevated wall. Pick up the Broken Great Axe of Raekor, then take it back to Gerti. After that Gerti will need materials: an Oppressor Horn in the Hapless Frontier and three Silver Quartz from the Infected Delve. Give them to Gerti.
Dust Daisy

- Prerequisites: None
- Reward: Herb Cache
Dust Daisies can be found in herb bushed in the Kotama Grasslands. Take it to Jaral in Ked Bardu.
Side Quests in the Dindai Flats
To the north of the Fields of Hatred is a small location called the Dindai Flats. Look for two quests here.
Exhuming Faith
- Quest Pick Up Location: Orbei Monastery
- Quest Starting Item: Blood-Splattered Scroll
- Prerequisites: None
- Reward: Cache
Inside the Orbei Monastery, there is a Blood Stained Scroll on the body of a dead monk. Players will then have to look for the Zakarum Trail Markers. The first is in the Ragged Shore, the second Path of the Ill Fated, and the third is along the edge of the Ragged Shore. Interact with and read these in order; after reading the last one, a demon will appear; kill it to end the quest.
Firsthand Knowledge
- Quest Pick Up Location: Dindai Flats
- Quest NPC: Nurbolat
- Prerequisites: None
- Reward: Cache
This is an escort quest; after talking to Nurbolat, bring him to the marketplace. Next, take him to Batzorig’s Neighbor’s house. Listen to the conversation between the ghosts, and then talk to them. They will attack; kill them. Speak with Nurbolat again, and he will want to head to the Family Cellar mentioned by the ghosts. When players head inside, they can talk to Nurbolat again, and he will become possessed and attack the player. Attack until he gives up, then talk to Nurbolat one last time.
Untamed Scarps Side Quests
This massive area called Untamed Scarps surrounds the Temple of Rot. Players can find 12 whole side quests here.
Consumed by Pride
- Quest Pick Up Location: Untamed Scarps
- Quest NPC: Ealda
- Prerequisites: None
- Reward: Salvage Cache
Ask Ealda what is wrong, and she will tell players about the missing Crane Tribe barbarians. Look to the southeast part of the Field of Broken Spears. Interact with the corpses there, called the Mutilated Barbarians. Talk to Ealda, and she will start the next quest called Raising Spears.
Raising Spears

- Prerequisites: Consumed by Pride Side Quest
- Reward: Salvage Cache
Go to the Champion's Demise dungeon. Collect 8 Blood-etched Spears from Champion's Demise with Ealda. Talk with Ealda to start the next quest, Fury Against Fate.
Fury Against Fate
- Quest Pick Up Location: Untamed Scarps
- Quest NPC: Ealda
- Prerequisites: Raising Spears Side Quest
- Reward: Gem Cache
Ealda can be found at the Crane Tribe Hutmoot in Untamed Scarps, she will ask players to meet her Meet in the Wasting Hollow Together, clear the cannibal feeding ground; there are several waves. Once all of them are dead, players will get a gem cache.
Worthy of Arreat

Ealda now wants players to find the Ancient Crane Sword in the Ancient's Lament Dungeon. Take the Sword to Gerti in Ked Bardu.
Culling of Flesh

- Reward: None
Kaida will ask players to kill cannibals in The Field of Broken Spears.
Currencies From Afar
- Quest Pick Up Location: Untamed Scarps

- Prerequisites: Culling of Flesh Side Quest
- Reward: None
Players can find a Bag of Old Coins from searching chests or corpses around the Untamed Scarps. Give these coins to Gesur in Jirandai.
Keeping the Old Traditions
- Quest Pick Up Location: Valley of the Strayed
- Quest Starting Item: Lonely Offering
- Prerequisites: None
- Reward: Treasure Chest
Go to the Valley of the Strayed, and click on the Lonely Offering in the Valley. Next, go to the ancient statue in the highlighted area. In front of the statue, use the Yes emote from the Diablo 4 emote wheel.
Blistered Heart
- Quest Pick Up Location: Untamed Scarps
- Quest NPC: Sorga
- Prerequisites: None
- Reward: None
Kill the spiders and the broodmother spider, then take the broodmother's Spider Queen Heart. Give it to Sorga.
Augury of Bone
- Quest Pick Up Location: Untamed Scarps

- Prerequisites: None
- Reward: None
Ogai will ask players to collect Bone Dust from skeletons in the Valley of the Strayed. Give them to Ogai, then they will ask players to investigate the Immemorial Inscription. Head back to Ogai to start the next quest in the chain called Hubris Smiles Back.
Hubris Smiles Back

- Prerequisites: Augury of Bone Side Quest
- Reward: None
Ogai can now be found near The Grinning One. They will direct players to head into the Grinning Labyrinth and pick up Baneful Oblations. Place the offerings on the Ritual Stones.
Salt Begets Salt
- Quest Pick Up Location: Untamed Scarps
- Quest NPC: Jargal
- Prerequisites:
- Reward: Salvage Cache
Look for Tuji's body in the Ruins of Qara-Yisu, then bring it back to Jargal. This will finish the Salt Begets Salt side quest in Diablo 4.
Tarnished Amulet
- Quest Pick Up Location: Untamed Scarps
- Quest Starting Item: Tarnished Amulet
- Prerequisites: None
- Reward: Elixir Cache
Cannibal enemies will randomly drop a Tarnished Amulet randomly. Bring the Amulet to the Yinsuk Shrine. Gesur will be standing by the shrine; talk to him.
The Scarred Coast's Side Quests
There are technically two side quests in the Scarred Coast, and players will want the rewards of both.
The Unlucky Ones

Talk to Nayan in the Tamuur Hinterland. They will ask players to kill 50 zombies in the Scarred Coast. Return to Nayan.
Sealed Penitent's Cache

- Quest Starting Item: Sealed Penitent's Cache
- Prerequisites: None
- Reward: Unsealed Penitent's Cache
This side quest doesn't seem to count toward the 38 total side quests listed in the area, but it is still worth picking up even if it doesn't get players the renown for the area. One Shambling Corpse will drop a Sealed Penitent's Cache in the Scarred Coast area of Dry Steppes. Kill highlighted enemies to fill the gauge and open the Cache.
