For an ARPG like Diablo 4, the action is seemingly endless, as there will always be monsters to kill and equipment to gather. Even with the campaign against Lilith at an end, the world of Sanctuary still needs saving, and there is much to do, especially in the endgame.

After completing the base game and reaching its conclusion, this ARPG changes form in a sense, with several new avenues opening up for players to seek more fun. A big feature is that of new World Tier levels that can drastically alter the experience, and in order to gain access to this feature, players will have to learn everything about what a Capstone Dungeon is in Diablo 4.

What are Capstone Dungeons in Diablo 4

Although the game already has a plethora of dungeons and cellars in which players can explore and hopefully grab an Aspect of Power of two, Capstone Dungeons are a different beast altogether.

It only becomes available at the end of the current run of a World Tier, and the first players will gain access to will be the Cathedral of Light Capstone Dungeon located in the Fractured Peaks.

This particular dungeon is much larger than any normal dungeon found in the game and includes a teleporter that will bring players to another portion of the dungeon to continue the fight. However, the setup will be a familiar sight, with players having to complete several objectives before being able to move on to the final boss fight. Having the right class build will help tremendously.

The first leg requires the collection of Animus from Revenant Knights, which should be straightforward enough for most players when it comes to fighting mobs and Elites. The following objective will be much tougher, however, tasking players to take on the High Council.

The High Council is made up of four different bosses with health bars, and they do not go down easy. Focus on taking down the Sacred Physician to prevent enemy healing and buffs, and take care of the Grand Inquisitor to prevent ranged disturbances. After that, both the Lord Commander and Devoted Champion are more typical melee types, so dodge accordingly and give them the business.

After arriving at the Reliquary of Erudition, slay all the enemies and prepare for a difficult encounter with The Curator. This final boss is not one to be trifled with, especially with its arsenal of AoE attacks, so make sure all equipment is up to snuff. Dodge out of the way anything a green line appears on the ground to avoid damage and watch out for the floating skulls that cause the Vulnerable state if they connect.

The Curator is also fond of summoning bone walls to knock players about and will summon skeletal allies every once in a while to aid it in battle. Lastly, it can also call whirlwinds that can cause considerable damage to anyone caught within. Keep moving and focus damage on the boss, and eventually, it will go down.

Capstone Dungeon Rewards in Diablo 4

Aside from collecting all of that loot on the way to The Curator, completing the Cathedral of Light Capstone Dungeon will unlock World Tier 3: Nightmare, where the benefits are plentiful.

Monsters grant 100% increased XP and drop 15% more Gold but have 20% more resistance to all damage. At the same time, Sacred and Unique items become available, Helltides can occur, and Nightmare Sigils will begin to drop.

As for moving up to World Tier 4: Torment, that will require the completion of another Capstone Dungeon before that option presents itself. Finish that, and players can have the ultimate glory of facing down the Echo of Lilith for one final battle.

Diablo 4 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
