There are a ton of quests in Diablo 4, and even more become available once players finish the main story. Most can be seen by looking for blue exclamation points on the map, while some require a bit of intuition and perhaps a whole lot of luck.

The Way of the Three is one of Diablo 4's hidden side quests that many people don't even know exists. It's not listed in the game's quest log, nor does it have any specific NPC that's tied to it. The conditions needed to start this quest are hidden in plain sight, and in a world as big as Diablo 4's, even the simple act of stumbling upon it is almost impossible. Here's how to start this secret side quest.

How to Start the Way of the Three Quest in Diablo 4

Instead of speaking to an NPC or finding a random item like in other quests, Way of the Three will only begin once players find and interact with three different statues, specifically ones that represent Baal, Mephisto, and Diablo. All of these are in Kehjistan, though their exact locations are very easy to overlook. Upon finding them, use the Cheers emote.

Diablo 4: Way of the Three quest Baal statue location

Baal's statue can be found inside the Altar of Ruin, a Stronghold located north of the Iron Wolves Encampment. Cheer in front of the statue and check if the globe in its hand ignites. If so, then it means that the statue is now activated.

Diablo's statue is inside the Altar of Terror, which is located northeast of Gea Kul. An event is usually active in this area, but players don't have to complete it. The statue is inside the alcove behind the two elevated jump points. Diablo's hands will ignite, marking its activation.

Diablo 4 - Way of the Three quest Mephisto statue location

The statue of Mephisto is the hardest to spot, and that's because it's ruined and buried beneath rubble and sand. Players can spot this by teleporting to the Denshar in the southwestern Field of Hatred and checking the ruins right outside the town's entrance. After cheering, the statue's eyes will ignite with a blue flame.

Diablo 4: Way of the Three's starting point appears interacting with all statues

Once all three statues are activated, a blue quest marker will appear directly to the east of the Imperial Library Waypoint in Caldeum. Head to the marker to find an Unknown Altar near the Gates to Hell. Interacting with this will open a portal that leads to a secret cultist base where a sinister ritual has gone horribly wrong. Dispose of the enemies inside to receive the Hellfire Hauberk, a unique rare chest piece that rolls with Ultimate Damage, Close Damage Reduction, and % Total Armor.

Diablo 4 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
