Apart from the many story beats across its lengthy main campaign, much of Diablo 4's world is built through side quests and the subtle details surrounding each of them. The residents of Sanctuary have a lot of problems ahead of them, and players get to witness these ordinary people as they struggle to survive against the denizens of the Burning Hells.

In the arid plateaus of the Dry Steppes, Diablo 4 players can make contact with a reclusive barbarian tribe that's tangled up in a mess involving their people. The Consumed by Pride side quest sheds more light on the hardships these warriors are facing, and it serves as the stepping stone to a much longer and more significant chain of events.

First, players need to visit the Crane Tribe in the Dry Steppes. Their camp is found on the northern border of the Untamed Scarps region—players can get here the fastest by teleporting to the Onyx Watchtower Waypoint, assuming they've already cleared out the bandits from there.

Speak with Ealda in the middle of the camp. She will tell players of the damage the neighboring cannibal tribes have done to their own groups. Then, she'll task players with finding the missing Crane Tribe barbarians out in the open plains.

The quest area is highlighted in blue on the minimap. However, the exact location of the missing tribesmen won't be revealed unless players stumble upon the right spot.

The dead barbarian's location in Diablo 4's Consumed by Pride quest

Head towards the middle of the area and up the small outcrop with the dilapidated wagon and tent. Interact with the corpse there, and a pair of hostile barbarians will spawn in. Defeat them and return to Ealda to deliver the unfortunate news.

Back at the Crane Tribe Hutmoot, players will arrive to see Ealda speaking to a barbarian who has turned to cannibalism. She refuses to humor the accused's talk of honor and kicks him off the cliff in anger. Speak to her to complete the quest and receive a bunch of gold, some XP, a cache of leather, and Renown XP for the Dry Steppes.

According to Ealda, the Crane Tribe are descendants of Nihlathak, an elder of the city of Harrogath who betrayed his kin during the events of Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction. The survivors of the Crane Tribe were eventually shunned by the rest of the barbarian clans for their elder's betrayal, and they have since been forced to fend for themselves after Mount Arreat fell to Baal and his minions.

Completing Consumed by Pride unlocks the rest of the Fury Against Fate quest chain.

Diablo 4 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
