There are a number of unique mounts in Diablo 4 that don't come from the in-game microtransaction store – some are rewarded for completing a particular challenge, some are available only at specific vendors. Like most items in Diablo 4, mounts can also drop from enemies and event reward caches.
The Spectral Charger mount is one of the most sought-after mounts in Diablo 4 because of its uniquely transparent skin – it also wails in a haunting, ghostly manner when summoned or spurred. The Spectral Charger is tied to the Ghastly Reins cosmetic, which only has a chance to drop from monsters slain during a specific world event.
How To Get The Spectral Charger Mount
The Spectral Charger mount can't be bought or found in just any location. New to Diablo 4 are events that only occur at certain times of the day: World Bosses spawn about three or four times in a 24-hour period, while Legion Events will spawn about every half an hour. The Ghastly Reins drops from the latter of these two.
In a Legion Event, players must kill hordes of spawning enemies over a small area to summon Servants of Hell. Up to 3 Servants of Hell can spawn in a Legion Event, after which their Overlord and a random end-of-dungeon Boss appear for a final challenge. The best method to get Ghastly Reins is to farm Legion Events and aim for Mastery every time.
Farm Legion Events For The Ghastly Reins
Legion Events are marked with a white circle on the map of Sanctuary, and will typically appear on a player's minimap if they are close enough. There are a handful of places that Legion Events can spawn at, some of which only become accessible once an associated Stronghold has been cleared. Five minutes before a Legion event, a countdown timer will begin, and the icon should appear on the world map at the same time.
Depending on how many Servants of Hell are killed before the Overlord appears, more Radiant Chests will spawn at the end of the Legion Event. If no Servants of Hell are killed before the first wave timer ends, the Overlord and its rewards won't spawn.
Be sure to check your Stash every now and then, because the game will automatically recover Cosmetics and Legendary/Unique equipment that were left on the ground here – sort of like a Lost and Found, but only for these types of items. There's a chance that the Ghastly Reins could just be sitting there waiting to be picked up.
Once the Ghastly Reins drop, thank the RNG Gods, then right-click (or interact with) it in your inventory. It should appear as a White item, so it may not stand out amongst a full inventory. Once consumed, the Spectral Steed will become a new Breed option when customizing one's mount at a Stable.
