Leveling up in Diablo 4 is a long and somewhat tedious process. Players can easily sink in dozens of hours on a single character and barely reach a level worth of Torment difficulty. However, there are a few ways to essentially power-level a new character, and it'll all depend on whether players have the resources to do so.

Instead of running through the campaign all over again, Diablo 4 players have the option to skip all of that and jump straight to the free-roam Adventure mode, where everything is available right from the start. The plethora of options this presents can be a little overwhelming, so here's a guide on which ones to do when leveling up an alt character.

Leveling Alts in Diablo 4

In order to trim away some of the tedium in the leveling process, players should get as many Renown and Altar of Lilith bonuses as possible from their main character first. The effects they grant are active for all characters in the same realm, which means a level 1 character will be able to start their journey with massive bonuses. This is enough to make any alt worthy of World Tier 2, where they can enjoy a 20% EXP bonus.

Renown grants extra Potion slots and up to 10 extra Skill Points to all characters in the same realm. Meanwhile, Altars of Lilith give up to 68 extra points to every stat, greatly increasing the offensive and defensive capabilities of a level 1 character.

Also, any gear players collect on their other characters can be equipped on alts once they meet the level requirement. Keep an eye out for extremely rare elite enemies, as they might drop loot that can benefit an alt character's build.

Alt EXP Farming

With all the dungeons available right from the start, players have a ton of EXP farming options to choose from. Dungeons with kill objectives for their first half tend to be the best option for this, as they can be completed fairly quickly with very little effort. The Ruins of Eridu seem to be the best dungeon for EXP farming (even after it got nerfed), though any dungeon with kill objectives should theoretically be just as good.

Dungeons with splitting paths or tedious objectives are best done with a party since everyone can contribute to its completion.

Players can skip the repetitive farming and instead go for the Tree of Whispers bounties. These events pop up randomly in the world, and when players get 10 Grim Favors, they can visit the Tree of Whispers in Hawezar for a loot box as well as a nice chunk of bonus EXP on top of whatever they earned during their bounty runs.

Lastly, players can leech off their high-level friends by joining Nightmare or Torment difficulty dungeons even when they're under-leveled. Simply enter the dungeon, stand by the entrance, and have the high-level player clear everything. Again, the Ruins of Eridu dungeon seems to be the best place to do this, but any other area with high monster density will do the trick just as well.

Diablo 4 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
