Movement Speed is an essential stat in Diablo 4 as it has the potential to significantly cut down on players' time traveling and goes a long way in helping players avoid being hit. There are lots of ways to make navigation in Sanctuary faster – and the fast travel system makes it even more convenient – but unfortunately, Movement Speed in Diablo 4 isn't as broken as it was in the series' past.

In Diablo 3, the upper limit for the Movement Speed stat was significantly reduced from Diablo 2, and Diablo 4 seems to continue with this lowered speed limit. Don't expect to go zipping around Sanctuary like Sonic the Hedgehog, as players could back in the day. However, there are ways to increase Movement Speed that go beyond just base Stat improvements.

In The Diablo Games, Movement Speed Is A Key Attribute

Movement Speed has long been a major part of the Diablo formula, though it isn't quite as important in Diablo 4. This is thanks mostly to the new Evade mechanic. Because they can dodge now, players no longer have to increase their Movement Speed to directly increase combat survivability. Players can use the dedicated dodge button instead of moving out of the way of incoming attacks.

But, Movement Speed in Diablo 4 is still important for fast navigation of its vast open world, and for getting past packs of mobs without drawing too much attention.

There are two main ways to increase Movement Speed Diablo 4 players can take advantage of: buffs through abilities and gear, or the Mount system. Gear can come with direct modifiers to Movement Speed, usually via a flat percentage, but certain skills from each class can also increase a player's speed. Additionally, Diablo 4 introduces a Mount to the ARPG's formula, which significantly increases a player's ability to get across Sanctuary quickly. However, the Mount only works outside of combat, and isn't affected by Movement Speed modifiers.

What Is The Maximum Movement Speed Multiplier in Diablo 4?

The maximum base Movement Speed a player can have is 125%, which isn't a huge improvement over the base 100% move speed. Indeed, it appears that players can reach this maximum limit relatively early in the game. However, this is the limit for the stat itself, not necessarily for a player's actual maximum allowed speed once buffs are taken into account.

When using a Shrine, for example, Diablo 4 players are given a temporary buff as well as a boost to Movement Speed for the duration. This can go above 125% Movement Speed if players are already at the 125% cap from base stats alone. Similarly, Boots that boost speed after using Evade can push players' actual speed past this limit, too. For the most part, it appears that temporary Movement Speed buffs can push past the speed "cap" in Diablo 4, but permanent stat boosts can only make players go about 25% faster.
