Diablo 4 tells a gritty, gruesome tale set in an unforgiving, barren world. Murderous demons are spreading across the land, sent by ruinous powers to subjugate the masses. Lilith has returned, and it’s up to the bold wanderer to do something about it.

It won’t take long to realize that taking on the demon hordes is a task best handled with friends, and there’s no better way to assemble a party than starting a clan. The following guide covers how to start a clan in Diablo 4 that can be used to unite players under a single banner.

How to Start a Clan In Diablo 4

starting a clan

A clan in Diablo 4 serves to bring together players with similar interests and play styles. It can be public, encouraging certain players to join, or private, for gaming groups that already know whom they want to play with.

Diablo 4 doesn’t require players to complete any story beats or speak to any NPCs to start a clan. It can be done at any time and from anywhere. Here’s how to get started:

  1. Open the Game Menu and navigate to the “Clan” tab.
  2. Select Create Clan.
  3. Enter a name for the clan in the Clan Name field.
  4. Enter a Tag for the clan in the Clan Tag field. It can be up to 6 characters long.
  5. A Clan Description, Language, and Label are optional, but if this will be a public clan, players would do well to fill this out. It’s a good place to mention things like whether people in this clan will be skipping the story or what difficulty they like to play on.
  6. Once the settings are correct, select Create Clan.

How to Customize a Clan

Configuring the clan properly ensures that players can find it and that it’s useful to them when they do. There are ranks that players can be assigned to, messages that can be displayed, a customizable banner, and more. It’s fairly robust but also straightforward.

Selecting Manage Clan from the Clan Menu brings up another menu:

  • The “Summary” tab opens first, where players can edit the Visibility, Message of the Day, Labels, and more. There are also buttons in this tab for Disband Clan and Leave Clan, should players need them.
  • The “Permissions” tab is where players can change what each rank in the clan is permitted to do. This includes things like who can speak in voice chat or who can promote or demote members.
  • The “Heraldry” tab is where the clan's leader can customize a banner. The background, symbols, and colors can all be customized by browsing the menu. Players having trouble feeling creative can use the Randomize All button to get some ideas.
  • The last tab is “Bans.” Hopefully, these won’t be necessary, but if any player is banned, they’ll show up there. Players with the appropriate rank can change the bans as needed.

Diablo 4 launches June 6 on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5.
