There's a lot of complexity to the gameplay of Diablo 4, and a lot of buttons to press if players want to optimize their class. Oftentimes the default control layouts aren't quite what players feel comfortable using, but Diablo 4 makes it easy to remap controls to fit one's playstyle. For example, on Xbox controllers, the Evade button is set to "B" by default, but many find it better to use the face buttons for abilities and assign Evade to a shoulder button.

Players can set multiple inputs for the same action, and the game recognizes extra mouse buttons and extended inputs not available on most keyboards like F13 through F24, too. The process for getting to the controls menu is a little bit different depending on the platform, though.

How To Customize Diablo 4 Keybinds on PC

One of the benefits of using a mouse and keyboard in Diablo 4 is that it allows players to react faster and set up attacks more precisely than with a controller. PC players lose out on the comfort of playing Diablo 4 from the couch, but hand cramps can be a small trade-off for easier inventory management and more accurate AoE spellcasting.

To customize keybindings on a mouse and keyboard setup on PC, either open the Game Menu directly with the Esc key, or open up any of the menus for the map, collections, social, or clan, and select the Game menu from the top bar. From here, open the Options menu, then scroll over to Controls to reveal every action and the keybinding currently assigned to it. This screen should automatically switch to match a player's chosen input, but if it's not displaying Keyboard bindings, look at the top of the screen and swap it back to the PC view.

Scroll through the input menu and look for the actions you want to change. The key currently assigned to actions is shown in a column to their right. To remove a keybinding, hover over its currently assigned one and press the Delete button. It should automatically be removed from the list.

To assign a new key to a binding, it doesn't have to be deleted first – players can simply re-write over its currently assigned one. Click on the assigned key then press a new input on either the keyboard or mouse. Remember to confirm changes before heading back into the game.

How To Change Diablo 4 Controls on Console

Diablo 4 is very well-designed for console play, and many players – even PC players – have come to prefer experiencing Sanctuary with a gamepad instead of a mouse and keyboard. It's easier to move around the world, it's more comfortable for the hands, and the lack of precision for long-range attacks is made up for with satisfying close-range combat. What's not easier on a controller is navigating the UI.

To change controls Diablo 4 console players can't just click on each menu tab in succession and reach the keybindings page in a few seconds. First, open up the Map with the Select button on Xbox or the Share button on PlayStation, then use the shoulder buttons on either controller type to reach the Game Menu.

Then, scroll down and open the Options menu, and use the shoulders once again to get to the Controls tab on the top bar. To remap Diablo 4 actions on a controller, players must find each action they want to replace, scroll to its right, and select the box that displays its currently assigned button. The box will become highlighted, and the next input players make on their controller will become assigned to that action instead.

Though Xbox and PlayStation players must rebind their controls one by one with their controller, PC players using a controller input can still use the keyboard and mouse interface to make the process a bit easier. The game swaps between controller and keyboard and mouse automatically when an input is made on either.
