Coiling Wards are Rare Crafting Materials in Diablo 4 that players will eventually need in order to upgrade their Legendary armor and imprint Aspects. While many fans are likely to (correctly) assume that this material comes through salvaging, they may still struggle to get their hands on it. Indeed, players that hope to earn Coiling Wards in Diablo 4 will need to be very specific with their salvaging, and this guide is here to point them toward the correct items for dismantling.

Diablo 4: How to Get Coiling Wards

In order to earn Coiling Wards, players must salvage Legendary armor pieces with 400+ Item Power at a Blacksmith. For full clarity, armor pieces are helms, chests, gloves, legs, and boots, and they all award Coiling Wards when salvaged. That said, players should make absolutely sure that the Legendary armor pieces that they are salvaging are of the requisite Item Power, as less powerful items will only grant lower tier crafting materials in Diablo 4.

While many readers will already be quite clear on how to salvage Legendary items in Diablo 4, a few words on the subject may still be helpful to some. Quite simply, players that want to dismantle an item should visit a Blacksmith, which can be found in most towns and appears as an anvil icon on the map, and select the Salvage tab. Here, fans will see "Directly in Inventory" near the top of the menu, and they should click on the icon below those words, select the Legendary to be salvaged, and confirm to execute the action.

To note, 400 Item Power is also the point at which fans will need to use Coiling Wards in order to imprint Aspects in Diablo 4. Indeed, imprinting Aspects on items with 399 Item Power and below requires only Veiled Crystals, which are much easier to obtain than Coiling Wards. As such, players are advised to hold onto imprinted items with Item Powers just below 400 until they have established a consistent source for salvageable 400+ Legendary armor.

For some fans, this will mean waiting until World Tier 3 to cross the 400 Item Power threshold. For the uninitiated, players will unlock Diablo 4's World Tier 3 upon completion of the campaign and the Cathedral of Light Capstone Dungeon, which is accessible in World Tier 2. That said, there are strategies for farming Legendaries prior to that point, and using Murmuring Obols to gamble at the Purveyor of Curiosities is one of the best of them.

Diablo 4 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
