There are a lot of different systems packed into Diablo 4. From classes, skill trees, and Paragon glyphs, to enchantments, buffs, and Legendary Aspects, the number of things players have to keep track of - both in terms of damage numbers and good ol' inventory space - can be overwhelming. Even once they reach the late game, more systems are thrown at them. Thankfully, ignoring the less-crucial ones is both easy and not overly detrimental when crafting a solid build.

One such less-crucial system is Diablo 4's challenges. These tasks cover a wide array of gameplay actions. Some are as simple to complete as players upgrading their healing potion for the first time, or conquering a Stronghold. Others are much more difficult. While the reward of a new title isn't all that enticing, completing these challenges also rewards a large chunk of XP, which is much more valuable. The game's toughest challenges will require players to make a conscious effort to complete them and gain that XP.

10 The Heroic Roster

Level 100 is a long ways away

Reach level 100 with every class

For many of these challenges, the biggest obstacle players will face in completing them is time. Such is the case with "The Heroic Roster," which requires players to level up every available class to the game's current max level: level 100.

Getting even one class to level 100 takes hours upon hours of playtime. Doing so with all 5 classes is something only the most dedicated and unwavering players will accomplish. Thankfully, every class feels completely different to play as, which can certainly help prevent the gameplay from getting stale while chasing down this challenge.

9 Endangered Species

Wildlife tends to blend into the background

Kill one of each wildlife.

This is one of those cases where players will have to go out of their way to complete a challenge. Wildlife in Diablo 4 tends to blend into the background, and since killing them doesn't grant any gold or loot drops, it's easy to start ignoring them entirely.

Not only can players not do that if they want to complete this challenge, but they'll also need to keep track of which wildlife species they've killed and then track down the ones they're missing. Then they need to wait for the game's RNG to spawn the wildlife while they're nearby. It'll take some doing to unlock it.

8 Champions No More

Elite monsters won't go down easy

Kill 3 Elite monsters in 30 seconds.

Elite monsters have earned that title for a reason. They're typically just standard enemies with a chunky health bar and a status effect or two that they steadily inflict on the player. Usually, they're thrown in among a mob of standard enemies.

The thing is, there's usually only one Elite monster in any given mob. That changes in Nightmare Dungeons, but still, just finding a mob with 3 Elite monsters is a challenge in itself. Then, the player has to kill all of them in quick succession. 30 seconds to be exact. Their best bet is to focus damage on each one until their health is almost gone, then switch to the next one, and finally finish them all off with a few quick blows. That, or just build an extremely overpowered character. Neither of those options is particularly easy though.

7 Swift Delver

Beating a dungeon takes time

Complete a dungeon in 2 minutes.

Any player who's completed a dungeon in Diablo 4 knows that they're pretty time-consuming. Most start out with a numbered objective - like destroying 2 altars - which requires thorough exploration to complete, and that's just to unlock the path to the dungeon's boss.

Now imagine completing that objective and defeating the dungeon boss in under two minutes. That's what "Swift Delver" asks of players. Many will complete every dungeon in the game and never come close to conquering this challenge. It will require a mix of luck, skill, and knowledge for them to even have a chance.

6 Estuar Wanderer

Diablo IV's map is a sprawling mess of paths not taken

Explore all of Estuar.

Diablo 4's map is no joke. Each of its five regions is massive, containing dozens of dungeons and sidequests as well as a handful of Strongholds, not to mention at least one major city and several small towns.

In order to unlock the "Estuar Wanderer" challenge, players will need to explore every inch of the game's map. Thankfully, they don't need to complete everything on the map as well, simply discovering everything is enough, but that's still a tall task. For their efforts, players will be rewarded with a set of Mount Armor as well as some XP when they complete this challenge.

5 Nightmare Conquerer

Ancestral Nightmare dungeons are the game's ultimate test

Complete all Ancestral Nightmare Dungeons.

There are dungeons, there are Nightmare dungeons, there are Sacred Nightmare dungeons, and then there are Ancestral Nightmare dungeons. These last iterations are some of the hardest dungeons the game has to offer, only made worthwhile by providing the game's best loot as a reward.

To unlock this challenge, players will need to complete every Ancestral Nightmare dungeon in the game. Every single one of those dungeons will put up a fierce challenge, likely requiring multiple attempts to conquer. There are 30 in total, so get to work.

4 Evasive Maneuvers

Taking damage is almost unavoidable

Complete a Nightmare dungeon without taking damage.

To be completely honest, we're not sure how this challenge is even possible. Taking damage is par for the course in Diablo 4. Even the most standard, unthreatening mob is likely to land a single hit when engaged with the player simply due to the cooldowns attached to both defensive skills and dodges, and the chaotic nature of the game's combat.

Yet, to complete the "Evasive Maneuvers" challenge, players must conquer an entire Nightmare dungeon without taking a single hit of damage. That includes the fight with the dungeon boss at the end. No challenge on this list will require more luck than this one.

3 Trophy Hunter

These monsters are one of a kind

Kill all extremely rare monsters in the Open World.

On top of Elite monsters, there are also monsters found roaming Diablo 4's map that is considered "extremely rare." They can be found in specific regions of the game's map, but there is no guarantee that they will spawn when the player wanders by.

To complete this challenge, players need to not only track down all 15 of these monsters but kill every single one. They are still Elite monsters, but they usually bring with them a unique ability that makes them an even tougher opponent. The one perk is that they have a high chance of dropping Legendary gear when defeated.

2 Journeyed Slayer

World bosses will put everything the player has learned to the test

Kill every World Boss in Hardcore mode.

Of all the enemies the game has to offer, no battles are tougher than Diablo 4's World Bosses. These 3 enemies spawn at random around the game's world and make all other boss fights look like child's play. They have huge health bars, devastating attacks, and tend to summon an army of minions to their side.

There is also a difficulty that players unlock after completing the game's campaign called Hardcore mode. This mode grants players absolutely no mercy. If their character dies at any point, they die for good. Back to the character select screen, back to level 1. World Bosses require a strong, high-level character just to attempt, so even getting to the point where fighting them is possible will take some time. Imagine putting in all that work, taking on the first World Boss, and then dying. It's a devastating concept. Now go do it 3 times.

1 Enemy Of Sanctuary

PVP is the weird little cousin of Diablo IV's many game modes

Get 100 PVP kills.

An often-overlooked element of Diablo 4's gameplay is its PVP mode. Players can, if they want, pit their characters against each other in combat to see who is the strongest. The reason it's overlooked is that it sort of ignores much of the core gameplay. Characters typically aren't built for PVP, and it often leaves two players standing still facing each other and casting endless skills like Gandalf and Saruman in The Fellowship of the Ring.

In order to complete the "Enemy of Sanctuary" challenge, players will need to get 100 kills in PVP. This isn't necessarily a difficult total to reach, and players who devote themselves to the game's PVP will probably hit 100 kills in no time. For most players though, this challenge will require stepping away from a lot of Diablo 4's standard gameplay, and because of that, many will not even sniff the requirements needed to complete this challenge.

Diablo 4 was released on June 5th, 2023, and is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.
