Legendary Aspects play a very important role in Diablo 4, as they can be used to inscribe powerful effects onto gear pieces. While many Legendary Aspects can be permanently unlocked by completing dungeons, some can only be obtained by finding a Legendary item with the Aspect and then extracting it at an Occultist. This guide is here provide more details on this system, and it will help players earn the Legendary Aspects that they want in Diablo 4.

To begin, it is very important to establish that there are five types of Legendary Aspects in Diablo 4. Those types are Defensive, Offensive, Resource, Utility, and Mobility, and each one can only appear on items of certain types. Here is a full breakdown of this relationship between Aspects and items, and it is a critical element in farming for specific Aspects:

Aspect Type

Item Type

Defensive

Helm, Chest Armor, Pants, Amulet

Offensive

1H Weapon, 2H Weapon, Gloves, Amulet, Ring

Resource

Ring

Utility

Helm, Chest Armor, Boots, Gloves, Amulet

Mobility

Boots, Amulet

With this foundation, players will now understand that certain Aspects can only be found on certain Legendary items. As an example, Resource Aspects can only appear on Rings, and fans that are attempting to obtain a specific Resource Aspect should thus be farming specifically for Legendary Rings. Notably, ways to farm for specific types of Legendaries in Diablo 4 will be detailed later in this guide.

Things get slightly more complicated when looking at Aspects that can be found on more than one item type, though it is still possible to identify the best Legendaries to farm for each Aspect. Specifically, Diablo 4 players should be targeting the item type that has the fewest possible associated Aspects. For example, if a fan wanted to obtain a Defensive Aspect, they should farm for Legendary Pants, as those are the only items that will always have a Defensive Aspect.

To simplify this idea, here is a chart that players can use to determine which item types they should be farming when looking for specific Aspects:

Aspect Type Desired

Item Type to Farm

Defensive

Pants

Offensive

1H Weapon, 2H Weapon

Resource

Ring

Utility

Helm, Chest Armor, Boots, Gloves

Mobility

Boots

With all of this said, players may now wonder how they can go about obtaining specific types of Legendaires, and here are the options that are available to them:

  • Purveyor of Curiosities: Diablo 4's Purveyor of Curiosities, an NPC that can be found in Kyovashad and other cities, gives players a chance to turn their Obols into random items of a selected type. These items have a chance to be Legendary, and fans should choose the cheapest option that can yield the desired Aspect to stretch their Obols as far as possible.
  • Tree of Whispers: Upon beating Diablo 4's campaign, players will gain access to an activity through the Tree of Whispers. This activity centers around performing various tasks in order to earn Grim Favors, which can be turned into a reward upon obtaining 10. Fans will have the opportunity to choose the type of reward that they want when turning in their Grim Favors, allowing them to target specific item types.
  • Helltides: Diablo 4's Helltides are another end-game activity that can be used to target specific types of items. In this activity, players use Cinders to open chests, and the names of those containers indicate the item type that they award.

While players now have all the information that they need to go after the Legendary Aspects that they want, they may feel slightly overwhelmed by all this information. In an attempt to alleviate that feeling, here is the specific strategy that fans should use:

  1. Identify a desired Legendary Aspect.
  2. Determine the Aspect's type.
  3. Use this guide's second chart to determine the best items to target.
  4. Use the Purveyor of Curiosities, Tree of Whispers, and Helltides to farm for those items.
  5. Use the Occultist to extract the Aspect.

One final thing to mention is that there is some randomness to the strength of Legendary Aspects, as there is a range of values with which they can roll. As an example, the Bladedancer's Aspect has a range of 10 to 15% for its effects. This means that players that want to maximize the power of their characters will not only need to farm for specific Aspects, they will need to continue to do so until they find a Legendary with a perfect roll of that Aspect. Furthermore, Aspects cannot be extracted after they have been imprinted, and fans will thus need to repeat this process if they want to swap out an imprinted piece.

With respect to the Aspects that are entered into Diablo 4's Codex of Power upon completing dungeons, those always have the lowest value from the range. While this fact should not dissuade players from completing dungeons, as having an infinite source for certain Aspects is valuable, it is true that better versions of Aspects can be found in the wild.

Diablo 4 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
