Behind Diablo 4's massive open world and epic new story lies the one thing that made the series so titanic in the first place: the never-ending hunt for good loot. The only thing better than slaying demons is finding a shiny new Legendary item with powerful effects that can crank a build-up to maximum overdrive.

As players go on their crusade to save Sanctuary from the Daughter of Hatred, they'll stumble upon countless pieces of gear—some will be worth keeping, but most will not. Players who want to keep up with the game's escalating challenges, they'll need the best weapons and armor they can find. Here's the best way to form loot as of the launch version of Diablo 4 that does not rely on bugs and exploits.

Legendary and Unique Item Farm in Diablo 4

In a game this massive, one or several loot-farming exploits are bound to pop up. However, since Diablo 4 is a live service title, fans can expect such exploits to get patched out in an emergency hotfix if Blizzard finds them too game-breaking. With that said, the following farming method will not rely on such things and instead focus on farming the way the developers intended.

The best way to farm high-quality items in Diablo 4 is to grind Public Events in Helltide areas on Nightmare difficulty. Not only do the chests from these events have a high chance of dropping Legendaries, but they also drop Obols and Aberrant Cinders, both of which are used to acquire even more items.

Events seem to occur more frequently in Helltide areas, and they restart fairly quickly too. There will be instances where a new event will start in the same spot in less than a minute since the last one was finished. Players are recommended to stick around or teleport back to town for a bit before returning to the battlefield. By the time they return, a new event should already be up.

A Greater Radiant Chest in Diablo 4

Grinding events is an extremely fast way to max out on Murmuring Obols and Cinders. The former is spent on Curiosity vendors, while the latter is used to open Tortured Gift chests around Helltide areas. Both of these (and the Greater Radiant Chests from events) have a chance of giving players Legendary and Unique items, though the drop rate for Uniques appears to be extremely low on Nightmare mode.

In case a Public Event stops reappearing in one spot, move on to a different one. Mark one of the spots on the map or make a mental note of where they are and just keep patrolling both zones until an event shows up.

If a zone on the map appears blood-soaked, it means that a Helltide is currently active in that area. If a Helltide is in a region with active Grim Whisper bounties, then players should start farming there immediately to maximize the loot they get.

Diablo 4 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
